BEYOP Impact Story Creating Pathways to Work Through the National Youth Service Youth Employment • National Youth Service • September 2026 Building Experience, Skills and Opportunity At Blueberry Education Youth Programmes (BEYOP), we believe young people need more than training. They need opportunities to apply their skills, gain real workplace experience and demonstrate their potential. Through our youth development and National Youth Service initiatives, BEYOP connects unemployed young people with structured community service and workplace opportunities across Gauteng. Participants gain practical experience while developing essential workplace qualities such as discipline, teamwork, communication, responsibility and professionalism. Taking Opportunities Closer to Young People BEYOP works within communities including Tembisa, Midrand, Ivory Park, Rabie Ridge, Kanana, Brakpan and surrounding areas. By creating opportunities closer to where young people live, we help reduce barriers such as transport costs and limited access to employment networks. Participants are supported through orientation, workplace preparation, monitoring and ongoing communication to ensure their experience contributes to their personal and professional development. From Participation to Practical Experience Our programmes expose young people to different forms of practical experience, including community service, administration, maintenance, technology-related opportunities and other workplace environments. BEYOP has also facilitated part-time maintenance opportunities at OR Tambo Memorial Hospital, providing young people with practical workplace exposure while earning an income. These experiences help participants strengthen their CVs, develop workplace references and gain the confidence required to pursue future employment opportunities. 100+ Young People Supported BEYOP has supported employment opportunities for more than 100 unemployed young people across Gauteng through its growing youth development and employment initiatives. Creating a Pathway to Employment Our objective is not simply to place young people into programmes. We aim to create a development pathway that helps participants progress from learning to meaningful economic participation. The BEYOP Opportunity Pathway Skills → Experience → Confidence → Employment → Sustainable Livelihoods Building Partnerships That Create Opportunity Sustainable youth employment requires collaboration. BEYOP continues to work with implementation partners, employers, training providers, government stakeholders and community organisations to expand opportunities available to young people. We welcome organisations that can provide workplace placements, skills training, mentorship, equipment, programme funding or employment opportunities to partner with us. Partner With BEYOP Together, we can connect more young people to education, skills, workplace experience and sustainable employment opportunities. Contact BEYOP “Empowering Youth. Developing Skills. BEYOP Promoting Safer Workplaces Through OHS & COIDA Awareness
BEYOP Impact Story Promoting Safer Workplaces Through OHS & COIDA Awareness Workplace Safety • Skills Development • September 2026 Creating Safer and Better-Informed Communities Blueberry Education Youth Programmes (BEYOP) recognises that workplace readiness is not only about having the right skills. Workers and job seekers also need to understand workplace hazards, their responsibilities and the procedures available when occupational injuries occur. Through our Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA) awareness initiatives, BEYOP provides practical information that helps workers, work seekers and community members better understand workplace safety and compensation processes. 30+ OHS & COIDA Workshops Delivered BEYOP has delivered more than 30 OHS and COIDA awareness workshops, helping participants improve their understanding of workplace safety, responsibilities, injury reporting and compensation processes. What Our Workshops Cover Our workshops focus on practical workplace information that participants can understand and apply in real working environments. Workplace Hazards Helping participants identify common workplace risks and unsafe conditions. Safe Work Practices Promoting responsible behaviour and safer working practices. Rights & Responsibilities Improving awareness of employer and employee responsibilities. Injury Reporting Explaining the importance of correctly reporting occupational injuries. COIDA Awareness Helping participants understand occupational injury and compensation processes. Workplace Readiness Preparing young people to enter workplaces with greater safety awareness and responsibility. Understanding Occupational Health & Safety Occupational health and safety awareness helps workers recognise potential hazards before they result in injury or illness. BEYOP encourages participants to understand the importance of safe working practices, appropriate protective measures, reporting unsafe conditions and taking responsibility for workplace safety. Safety is a shared responsibility. Safer workplaces are created when employers and employees understand their responsibilities and actively participate in preventing workplace injuries and occupational risks. Understanding COIDA Many workers and work seekers have limited knowledge of the processes that apply when a person is injured or develops an occupational disease because of their work. BEYOP’s COIDA awareness activities help participants understand the importance of reporting workplace injuries, maintaining appropriate documentation and understanding the processes associated with occupational injury compensation. Connecting Safety With Youth Development For BEYOP, workplace safety education forms part of a broader youth-development approach. Young people entering employment should understand not only how to perform their duties, but also how to conduct themselves safely and responsibly within a workplace. This complements BEYOP’s work in skills development, National Youth Service, workplace exposure, career guidance and youth employment. Expanding Our Reach BEYOP aims to continue expanding OHS and COIDA awareness across Gauteng, particularly within communities where workers, job seekers and young people may have limited access to workplace safety information. Through collaboration with government, employers, community organisations and development partners, BEYOP seeks to reach more beneficiaries and contribute to safer, better-informed and more responsible workplaces. Partner With BEYOP Organisations can partner with BEYOP to support OHS and COIDA awareness workshops, workplace-readiness initiatives, community education and youth-development programmes. Partnership support can include programme funding, venues, technical expertise, educational materials, participant referrals and opportunities to extend workshops into additional communities. BEYOP Impact Story Growing Opportunities Through Agriculture, Food Security & Green Skills Agriculture • Youth Development • Community Development • September 2026 Growing Skills, Opportunities and Communities Blueberry Education Youth Programmes (BEYOP) uses agriculture and food-security initiatives as practical platforms for youth development, community participation and skills building. Our approach encourages young people to participate in practical agricultural activities while developing knowledge, responsibility, teamwork and skills that can contribute to future employment, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods. Why Agriculture Matters for Youth Development Agriculture provides opportunities that extend beyond food production. It can introduce young people to practical skills, enterprise development, environmental responsibility and new economic pathways. BEYOP believes community-based agriculture can play an important role in developing skills while strengthening local food-security initiatives. A Practical Approach to Youth Empowerment BEYOP connects learning with practical participation. Agriculture initiatives provide young people with an environment where they can learn by doing, work as a team and understand how practical skills can develop into employment or enterprise opportunities. Our Agriculture & Food Security Focus Practical Agriculture Introducing participants to hands-on agricultural activities and practical production skills. Food Security Supporting community-based initiatives that promote local food production and greater resilience. Agriculture can provide participants with practical experience while introducing them to opportunities within food production, community projects, entrepreneurship and the green economy. BEYOP Development Pathway Training → Practical Skills → Experience → Enterprise / Employment → Sustainable Livelihoods Strengthening Food Security Community food-security initiatives can contribute to more resilient households while providing meaningful opportunities for young people to participate in local development. Through partnerships and skills development, BEYOP seeks to strengthen initiatives that enable communities to produce, participate and develop greater knowledge around sustainable agricultural practices. Connecting Youth to the Green Economy BEYOP recognises the growing importance of environmental sustainability and green economic opportunities. By combining agriculture, environmental awareness, practical training and entrepreneurship development, young people can be introduced to emerging opportunities while contributing positively to their communities. School Support, Learner Development & Educational Donations
BEYOP Impact Story Supporting Learners, Strengthening Schools & Building Brighter Futures Education • Learner Development • Community Support • September 2026 Education at the Heart of Youth Development Blueberry Education Youth Programmes (BEYOP) believes that education is one of the strongest foundations for creating opportunity, strengthening communities and helping young people build sustainable futures. Our school and learner-support initiatives are designed to reduce barriers to learning while connecting young people to information, resources, career guidance and development opportunities. Supporting Learners Beyond the Classroom Young people require more than classroom education to successfully navigate their transition from school into further education, training and employment. BEYOP therefore combines educational support with career awareness, learner development, community outreach and practical youth empowerment activities. Investing in Young People Early By supporting learners while they are still at school, BEYOP helps young people understand their options, develop confidence and make better-informed decisions about education, training and future careers. Our School & Learner Support Focus School Donations Supporting schools and learners with educational resources and other essential items where possible. Career Guidance Helping learners explore careers, further education, training opportunities and employment pathways. Learner Development Building confidence, awareness, personal development and readiness for opportunities beyond school. Higher Education Awareness Increasing awareness of universities, TVET colleges, training opportunities and further study pathways. Skills Awareness Introducing learners to practical, technical, digital and entrepreneurial development opportunities. Community Outreach Working with schools, families and communities to strengthen support around young people. From School to Opportunity One of BEYOP’s priorities is helping young people understand that there are multiple pathways available after school. Through career guidance and education-awareness activities, learners can be introduced to university study, TVET education, learnerships, skills programmes, entrepreneurship and employment opportunities. The BEYOP Learner Pathway Education → Career Awareness → Skills → Experience → Opportunity School Donations With a Purpose BEYOP views educational donations as more than the handover of resources. They provide an opportunity to engage learners, support schools and strengthen relationships between communities and organisations committed to youth development. Where possible, BEYOP combines donation initiatives with learner engagement, motivational activities, career awareness and educational support so that each intervention contributes to a broader development objective. Career Guidance That Opens Possibilities BEYOP has been involved in career guidance and career-awareness initiatives since its early years of operation. These activities help learners better understand different occupations, study pathways and skills opportunities while encouraging them to begin planning for their futures. Building Stronger Partnerships With Schools Schools are important partners in BEYOP’s youth-development model. Working directly with schools allows the organisation to engage young people at an important stage of their personal and educational development. BEYOP seeks to strengthen relationships with schools, education stakeholders, training providers, employers and corporate partners to expand the support available to learners. Support a School. Empower a Learner. BEYOP welcomes partnerships with businesses, foundations, government institutions, education stakeholders and community organisations that want to support learners and schools. Partners can contribute educational materials, technology, school supplies, career-development resources, mentorship, training opportunities, sponsorship or programme funding. Career Guidance & Youth Employability
BEYOP Impact Story Helping Young People Turn Career Ambitions Into Real Opportunities Career Guidance • Youth Employability • Skills Development • September 2026 Building Pathways From Education to Opportunity Blueberry Education Youth Programmes (BEYOP) helps young people understand their career options, develop employability skills and connect with education, training and workplace opportunities. For many young people, choosing a career can be difficult when access to information, professional networks and workplace exposure is limited. BEYOP’s career-development initiatives help close this gap by bringing practical career information closer to communities. Career Guidance Since 2015 Career guidance and learner development have formed part of BEYOP’s work since the organisation’s early years. Through career expos, awareness campaigns, learner-development activities and community outreach, BEYOP helps young people understand the different pathways available through universities, TVET colleges, skills programmes, learnerships, entrepreneurship and employment. Career Guidance Is About More Than Choosing a Job Effective career development helps a young person understand their strengths, identify opportunities, make informed education and training decisions and prepare themselves for the expectations of the workplace. What We Help Young People Develop Career Awareness Introducing young people to different industries, occupations and career pathways. Education Pathways Creating awareness of universities, TVET colleges and further education opportunities. Workplace Readiness Building professionalism, communication, responsibility and workplace confidence. CV Preparation Helping young people understand how to present their skills, education and experience professionally. Interview Preparation Preparing job seekers to communicate confidently and respond effectively during interviews. Opportunity Awareness Connecting young people with information about training, learnerships, work experience and employment. From Career Guidance to Workplace Experience BEYOP’s approach goes beyond providing career information. Where opportunities are available, we seek to connect participants to skills development, workplace exposure, National Youth Service activities and employment pathways. This allows career guidance to become the beginning of a broader development journey rather than a once-off intervention. The BEYOP Employability Pathway Career Awareness → Skills Development → Workplace Readiness → Experience → Employment Preparing Young People for a Changing Workplace The modern workplace requires young people to combine technical knowledge with communication, adaptability, digital capability, problem-solving and professional behaviour. BEYOP therefore promotes both practical skills and the personal capabilities young people need to navigate education, training, entrepreneurship and employment opportunities. Connecting Communities to Opportunity BEYOP delivers youth-development interventions within communities including Tembisa, Midrand, Ivory Park, Rabie Ridge, Kanana, Brakpan and surrounding areas. Bringing career-development support closer to communities helps reduce information barriers and enables young people to access guidance within environments that are familiar and accessible. Partnerships Make Career Pathways Possible Career guidance becomes more powerful when young people can interact with employers, professionals, training providers and education institutions. BEYOP therefore seeks partnerships that expose young people to real industries, occupations and opportunities while creating clearer pathways from learning to economic participation. Help Us Open More Career Pathways BEYOP welcomes partnerships with employers, universities, TVET colleges, SETAs, training providers, government departments, corporate partners and professionals who want to support youth career development. Partners can contribute through career talks, mentorship, workplace visits, training, internships, learnerships, work-experience placements, employment opportunities or programme funding.
